This is a post to present some of the work that I have been doing the last year, with this amazing group of women in Berlin. We met more or less one year ago, and since then we did quite some concerts, recordings and gatherings, learning and sharing our common love for music and traditions.

The name of the group is Ena Matso Kores (Ένα Μάτσο Κόρες) - which in greek means "a bunch of daughters/women". They sing polyphonic vocal music from different areas, such as Epirus, Macedonia, Balkans, Aegean Sea down to Bolivia and Brazil.

Αυτό το ποστ είναι για να παρουσιάσω ένα κομμάτι της δουλειάς που κάνουμε τον τελευταίο χρόνο, με το σχήμα Ένα Μάτσο Κόρες από το Βερολίνο! Γνωριστήκαμε περίπου ένα χρόνο πριν, και από τότε έχουμε κάνει αρκετές συναυλίες, ηχογραφήσεις, μαζέματα, πρόβες και μοίρασμα της αγάπης που έχουμε για τα τραγούδια, πολυφωνικά και μη, παραδοσιακά και μη!

Το γκρουπ αυτό υπάρχει εδώ και δύο - τρία χρόνια με βάση το Βερολίνο και ασχολούνται με πολυφωνικά τραγούδια από διάφορες περιοχές. Κοινή αγάπη τα ηπειρώτικα πολυφωνικά αν και τραγουδουν μουσικές από όλα τα βαλκάνια, αιγαίο μέχρι όπου πάει το ενδιαφέρον και η σύνδεση.. πχ σεφαρδίτικα, παλιά ισπανικά η λατινοαμερικάνικα τραγούδια.

Όταν οι ντούντησες και οι ντούντηδες βρεθήκανε σε ένα χωριό στην Εύβοια την άνοιξη του 2016 άρχισε να γεννιέται το μπουλούκι και ο παρών δίσκος . Η ανάγκη για ένα νέο όνομα ήρθε μέσα από τις αλλαγές στη σύνθεση και τις διαδικασίες της ομάδας.

A traditional song from the area of Tzoumerka mountains in Epirus, northern greece. This is a typical song of the wedding. The man goes to the neighbourhood of the girl and wakes her up singing. The girl welcomes him saying that ¨You brought beauty to our awful place¨!

Γειά!

Έχω κάμποσο καιρό να ποστάρω κάτι, σήμερα όμως είναι έτοιμο ένα πολύ ωραίο πρότζεκτ που έγινε πριν λίγο καιρό στην Αθήνα. Μαζευτήκαμε λοιπόν με διάφορους πολύ καλούς φίλους, και παίξαμε και τραγουδήσαμε μαζί κάποια κομμάτια. Καινούρια κομμάτια, που τα ηχογραφήσαμε και μόλις τα ανεβάσαμε και στο νετ! Τα στέλνουμε σε φίλους με σκοπό να εξαπλώσουμε την τραγουδιστική και μουσική αρρώστια. Δεν έχουν δικαιώματα, μπορείς να τα πάρεις και να τα κάνεις ότι θέλεις. Να τα τραγουδήσεις, να τα αλλάξεις, να τα χρησιμοποιήσεις. Μόνο να έχεις σκοπό την αγάπη και να μην τα χρησιμοποιήσεις ύπουλα για εμπορικούς/ χρηματικούς σκοπούς.. γιατί τότε όλοι αυτοί οι υπέροχοι άνθρωποι που τα τραγουδάνε θα θυμώσουν η θα στεναχωρηθούν.. Στο υλικό που έχει ανεβεί υπάρχουν και στίχοι, και αν χρειάζεσαι βοήθεια για τη μουσική στείλε μου μεηλ στο dimitrisathanas@hotmail.com !

Ο Ell Sol (Τζοάν Μένα) είναι ένας μουσικός που κατάγεται απο τη Βαρκελώνη και μένει στη Χάγη.
Κάνει σόλο συναυλίες οι οποίες βασίζονται στην ακουστική ισπανική κιθάρα, ουκελέλε και φωνητικά.
Παίζει πειραματική καταλονική φολκ αναμειγμένη με τζαζ, φλαμένκο, αυτοσχεδιασμό και μουσικές επιρροές απο διάφορα μέρη του κόσμου, δημιουργώντας ένα δικό του ιδίωμα. Παίζοντας κυρίως σε μικρά μέρη, σπρώχνει τα όρια σε ότι μπορούμε να ονομάσουμε σύγχρονη μουσική και προσπαθεί να συνδεθεί με το κοινό του μέσω αυτής. Έχει παίξει πάνω απο 40 συναυλίες στην Ευρώπη τον τελευταίο χρόνο μαζί καλλιτέχνες όπως οι Rainstick Cowbell (Αμερική), Stephanie Pan (Αμερική), King Ayisoba (Γκάνα) και ZEA (Ολλανδία).

One Man's Noise  είναι το πρότζεκτ του Δημήτρη Αθανασόπουλου απο την Αθήνα.  Ακουστικές συναυλίες που βασίζονται στον αυτοσχεδιασμό, συμμετοχικά παιχνίδια, τραγούδι, θέατρο και πειραματισμό. Τα παιχνίδια και οι αυτοσχεδιασμοί μπορεί να βασίζονται σε απλές ιδέες, φράσεις ή λέξεις, να καθοδηγούνται απο μια κούκλα ή ένα ρολόι. Αυτό που είναι πιο σημαντικό όμως είναι η συμμετοχή του κόσμου και η αντίληψη της μουσικής ως εξερεύνηση, παιχνίδι, ανταλλαγή και κάτι στο οποίο δεν υπάρχει λάθος και σωστό. Η ιδέα της ακουστικής συναυλίας και του στησίματος σε κύκλο είναι πολύ σημαντική για νιώθουν όλοι οι συμμετέχοντες ίσοι. Είναι ένα εγχείρημα που ξεκίνησε τον τελευταίο χρόνο αλλά έχει ταξιδέψει σε πολλές χώρες τις Ευρώπης όπως Ολλανδία, Βέλγιο, Γαλλία, Ισπανία, Ιταλία εμπλέκοντας πολλούς ανθρώπους, μεταδίδοντας και μαθαίνοντας απο τις εμπειρίες στο δρόμο.

Ο Τζοάν και ο Δημήτρης γνωρίστηκαν στην Ολλανδία και αφού έπαιξαν μαζί στη Χάγη και στην Καταλονία αποφάσισαν να κάνουν ένα μικρό τουρ στην Ελλάδα. Ετοιμάζουν ένα ενιαίο σετ στο οποίο μπλέκουν τα δύο διαφορετικά πράγματα που κάνουν και δοκιμάζουν συνέχεια καινούρια. Κάθε συναυλία θα είναι διαφορετική, σε ιδιαίτερα μέρη και με καινούριες ιδέες.

Ell Sol (Joan Mena) is a Catalan singer-songwriter whose intense, groundbreaking performances push the boundaries of contemporary music with the soul and sensibility of an artist looking to connect in deeper ways with his audiences. OneMansNoise is the project of Dimitris Athanasopoulos from Athens. Acoustic concerts involving improvisation, singing, games and most of all participation of the people. Can involve also theater, puppets, books, percussion or any other idea that comes up before the concert. This project has been touring a lot of countries during the past months such as Netherlands, Belgium, France, Spain and Italy.

Joan and Dimitris met in the Netherlands and after playing together in The Hague and Catalunya decided to make a two-week tour in Greece together. Every concert is gonna be different and special.

New CD "Forty Rules To Make A Sound"

This is the moment! Today I upload this CD that we have been working on with friends for the past couple months. It has 12 tracks and all of them are music made with voice and improvisation. It is actually 12 ideas, that can change anytime and actually keep changing. So, let's say that this CD is a version of these ideas. This means that you can also take them and do something new with it. Feel free to sing them and improvise on them, or to take samples from these recordings and make something new! Forget about copyrights! (except if your purpose is to make money with them, in which case I will be very mad at you! :) )

BaboDona, impro CD-trip with Aris and Vincent!

Hello!

SO, today I upload a really special CD with the name "BaboDona"that we had been working on with two friends in the past months. These two friends are Aris and Vincent. They are very good friends that live in London and study filmmaking in the same school. A couple months ago they visited me in The Hague for some days and, for some unknown reason, we started playing music and improvising every day. So, we thought, let's start recording everything and that's how this CD came out. For me, personally, it is very important because it was the birth of a lot of ideas that I used later for improvisation and a very inspiring period that gave me the motivation to start organizing some improvisation sessions. For Aris and Vincent, it is important for other reasons I guess cause it is something that we all did for the first time and had an amazing time discovering.

This is a cd I have been working on the past months with a lot of good friends. It is made of twelve tracks and we recorded every track with different friends. So, it worked this way; I had an idea which would be based on a word, a phrase or a small text and then we improvised on it. All the tracks are just music made with voice, except for two that have also some percussion. It is gonna be ready in the beginning of June and available on this blog to download for free. I will also make some copies now, but if you want one, you should better contact me at the end of the summer, when I will be back from travelling :)

The house improvisation sessions

So, this post is a kind of summary and explanation of a project that I have been doing the past months.

It's a little story and I will take it from the beginning.

It started when my friends Aris and Vincent from London visited me in The Hague.We were playing music and improvising almost everyday in different places with all kinds of objects.Inspired by our sessions and especially by one we did with (my dear current housemate) Sivan I had the idea of organising some improvisation sessions in houses.

I started by doing one at my place in The Hague, then two in Belgium -Waregem and Gent- then another two in Alkmaar and Wageningen.Every time it is something different but more or less this is how it went.

I contacted a person usually through couchsurfing which is a site through which you can host people or

'surf' other people's couches. So I looked for people in cities close to The Hague and proposed them to organise these sessions together. This means that they hosted me for a couple days, they invited 10-15 friends to join the session and then we cooked together made some instruments out of objects in the house and some decorations for the space. For the actual session I have some games, most of them with words and language but the whole thing is driven by the input of the people, their reactions and ideas. That's why every session is a surprise for me too.

The idea behind this project is to try to invite and motivate people to play as they did when they were kids. It is way to let people be free to discover sound and the relationships between them by playing together. I also believe in the nature of human to want to play and discover any kind of instrument or object and not in playing "good" or "bad". Everyone can play if they want to.

This project is about expressing freely and spontaneously and I would like to keep on doing it in different places with different people and in new forms. It could also involve more theatre or dancing more than speaking and language.

It can also be in other places like a small bar, on the street, a kindergarden, a squat or any place where people can get together. If you have ideas about how to develop it or do it in a different way please let me know. Anywhere in Europe is negotiable and now I am based in The Hague. I would like very much to visit smaller places and villages more than cities so even if you live in the middle of nowhere don't hesitate to contact me!

Check out the new album of Bad Bid!

Today's post is about a really nice band from Athens that I used to play with.

...and this is   B a d   B i d !

Probably  if you are my friend you will know them.

Well the first album of Bad Bid is finally out. The recordings started on the summer of 2011 when I was still in Greece and finished a couple months ago.

It is a music with lots of elements and energy. A lot of instruments too! Bass, drums, guitar, 2 violins, saxophone, trumpet, mellodica and lots of vocals!

The album was recorded by Alex and mastered by George from Artracks studios.

some nice looking cds!

Hey!

One Mans Noise is nice, but two are better. And five even more.
At least that's how I am thinking these days.
So from now on and for some time you will be seeing a lot of collaborative projects here!

The first one is cd packaging with Vasilis whom I met
this year and lives in Rotterdam for the moment.

So we made the packaging of 30 copies of my last album to give
them to WORM, a very nice place with a music/movie/book shop,
nice events and really nice atmosphere. :)

All of them are different and there's a lot of love in there!
